Acwsalcta Place of Learning Bella Coola, BC

Many members of the community including students, teachers, parents, Chief and council participated in the design for this school though multiple design charrettes. Through this design process the traditional cultural heritage of the Nuxalk people ended up being expressed throughout the building.

The project was constructed under a Construction Management contract with significant participation of band labour in the construction process. The design allowed the completed forested site to be harvested and milled directly on site into the required structural and finishing materials. Thus all the trees removed from the site were fully utilized in the construction of the school.
