This development by Xwémalhkwu (Homalco) First Nation is located deep into the Bute Inlet, at the mouth of the Orford River, on approximately 100 acres of land occupied by the original historic village. The programming includes a Lodge, Cabins, Interpretive Centre, Bear and Wildlife Observation Towers and numerous nature trails. The Master Plan for development and concept designs of all buildings and structures are completed, and utilize sustainable wood construction technologies. All structures and building elements will be pre-manufactured off-site, transported and assembled at the site landing and then lowered by helicopters to the ground, to protect the pristine, sensitive ecology of the site, with minimal interference. The architectural and structural design has evolved from the historical, traditional expressions of Coast Salish cultures, and translates it into modern day technologies, meeting all the requirements of the BC Building Code. The project will utilize all available and practical sustainable principles to achieve a LEED™ rating.
